Hello Love,

For decades I was on the hunt for the serenity of “inner peace”. That peace seemed like an elusive destination.  I didn’t know exactly what that peace would look like, but I assumed I would know it when I got there.

Ends up, the peace I discovered wasn’t anything like my imagined arrival. This peace was alive and engaged; curious and present, bubbling with possibilities. That’s why, after reading this poem by John Roedel, my body softened, and I felt exhilarated. Something true spoke to me through John’s words.  And you are who I wanted to share this poem with.

Jump right in with me. Make a splash.
In peace,
Sharon

~*~*~

I used to think that
achieving inner peace
would make my heart look
like a calm lake

I thought being in
harmony meant:

no ripples
no waves
no lapping shores

~ just still water

it turns out that
serenity isn’t the absence
of movement

~ in fact

~ it’s quite
the opposite

because the more
peace I feel

the more my heart
churns and bubbles

like a lake boiling
as a ribbon of lava breaks through
underneath the water

I don’t think we were created
out of nothingness to come
here just to let our hearts become
an unmoving body of cold water
covered in standing algae

I think the Great Love placed
a fire in us so that our lives will
be a natural spring of swirling
hot healing water that never
looks the same way twice

the war machine thinks
it is the only thing that can
move and lumber

~ and that’s simply not true

peace is the most disturbing
force in the universe

peace is the tide that washes
away the ancient seaweed of
division that builds upon our shores

peace is anything but still

it’s a tsunami that can terraform
rock fortresses into open-air chapels

my love,

I’m starting to realize
that the less my heart moves

 ~ the heavier it gets
~ the more dust it collects
~ the less kindness I feel

but when I let my heart
constantly stir
like a cotton candy machine

~the lighter and
sweeter it becomes

empathy is an act of chaos

it takes the narcissistic
scripts we have been given
and rewrites them into
a handwritten gospel
of understanding

peacefulness is
anything but still

~ it is pure motion

peace is the ripple
that starts in the center of my heart
and rushes out through the faucets
of my eyes, hands and tongue
out into the world

my love,

ripples
are remarkable
because

we aren’t here
to be stagnant

we are here to make a splash

Hello Beloved,
It’s me again. xoxox

I usually don’t send these messages so close together but today I felt moved to bring you a serving of soul-food written by Clarissa Pinkola Estes.
Shared with thanks and appreciation.

I love you,
Sharon

Do not lose heart. You were made for this.

Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world all at once,
but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach.

Any small, calm thing that one soul can do to help another soul,
to assist some portion of this poor suffering world, will help immensely.

It is not given to us to know which acts or by whom will cause the critical mass to tip toward an enduring good.

What is needed for dramatic change is an accumulation of acts, adding, adding to, adding more, continuing.

We know that it does not take “everyone on Earth” to bring justice and peace, but only a small, determined group who will not give up during the first, second, or hundredth gale.

One of the most calming and powerful actions you can do to intervene in a stormy world is to stand up and show your soul. Soul on deck shines like gold in dark times. The light of the soul throws sparks, can send up flares, builds signal fires, causes proper matters to catch fire.

To display the lantern of soul in shadowy times like these—
to be fierce and to show mercy toward others, both, are acts of immense bravery and greatest necessity. Struggling souls catch light from other souls who are fully lit and willing to show it. If you would help to calm the tumult, this is one of the strongest things you can do.

There will always be times when you feel discouraged. I too have felt despair many times in my life, but I do not keep a chair for it; I will not entertain it. It is not allowed to eat from my plate.

The reason is this: In my uttermost bones I know something, as do you.
It is that there can be no despair when you remember why you came to Earth, who you serve, and who sent you here. The good words we say and the good deeds we do are not ours: They are the words and deeds of the One who brought us here.

~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
There is a field.
I’ll meet you there.

Hello Dear One,

The USA election is moving me to write this. No matter the outcome, the feelings of separation, betrayal and mistrust will continue to be intense. There’ll be anger, fear, and uncertainly. Many of our hearts, spirits, and minds will be tender and ultra-stressed.

How do we come back to each other?  Where will be find common ground?  Those are questions that stretch way beyond politics.

In sticky or stressful situations, I don’t know where the common ground will be, but I believe it is up to me to create spaciousness for it by becoming a welcoming presence. That is not always easy.

Recently I went through a few weeks where a series of heart-wrenching circumstances converged and jangled my nervous system. My mind went into over-drive, my belly tied itself in knots, my breath found it’s comfort zone in shallowness.  On top of that, the election shenanigans amped up everything.   I couldn’t find my own ground, much less common ground.

At times like these I have my favorite practices that bring me back to myself.  I’ve shared them with you before but here I go again.  For me they’re a version the homeopathic Rescue Remedy except they’re not just for emergencies.

These are each stand-alone practices, but linked together their medicine is super-charged. It doesn’t take much to support healthy change.  Play with these and take what serves you.

Feel it:
Stay with your body sensations. Can you feel what’s there without spinning a “this is why” story?  Is it possible to feel what is arising in your body without even labeling it – see what happens when the labels “fear”, “anger” “sadness” slide away.  What’s left in this moment?  Yes, stay with your body sensation and it will begin to soften and move.
_____
Shake, shake, shake it:

Energy wants to move, and shaking is one of the very best ways to do that.   Super-charge your shaking with sound and breath.
You’re making room for something new, fresh – maybe even surprising.

_____
Restore harmony:

Once I’ve got some energy moving then I can turn my attention toward a fresh, heart-felt connection.

I love the beautiful Hawaiian practice of Ho’oponopono.  Ho’oponopono means “to make things right”.
There are many versions of this available if you’d like guidance.  Here’s one – 3 Minute Ho’oponopono Meditation

Holding the person you feel separate from in your thoughts and speak these statements, giving yourself time to bring deep intention to the words:
    I’m sorry.
    Please forgive me.
    Thank you.
    I love you.

Repeat these several times.

_____
Cultivate Compassion:
After the ho’oponopono meditation I’m ripe for the simple and potent Compassion Exercise  from the Avatar Personal Integrity Course @ AvatarEPC.com      You can find a video of this practice here – The Compassion Exercise

Similar to the ho’oponopono practice, this does not take much time.  The quality of attention you bring is more important than the number of minutes.

With attention on the person, repeat to yourself:
“Just like me, this person is seeking some happiness for his/her life.”

With attention on the person, repeat to yourself:
“Just like me, this person is trying to avoid suffering in his/her life.”

With attention on the person, repeat to yourself:
“Just like me, this person has known sadness, loneliness, and despair.”

With attention on the person, repeat to yourself:
“Just like me, this person is seeking to fulfill his/her needs.”

With attention on the person, repeat to yourself:
“Just like me, this person is learning about life.”

_____
After these practices check-in with yourself and your answers to these questions:
“What can I do now that I couldn’t do before?” and
“What do I want to have happen?”

And because we don’t have to do things all on our own, I find valuable support through Soul-based Coaching sessions I receive from one of my colleagues. Her artful guidance leads me to insights, wisdom and a full-body feeling of resourcefulness that helps me meet challenging situations with clarity and love.  I am grateful.

Then from that ground of my own being, I find that field that Rumi talks about in the passage below.

Let’s meet there.
With love and possibilities,
Sharon

If you’re curious about the Soul-based Coaching approach or could use some support finding your own inner wisdom, please reach out to me.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,

There is a field. I’ll meet you there.
When the soul lies down in that grass,
The world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
Doesn’t make any sense.

Beloved One,

Take a moment. Come breathe with me.

Let’s be ease. Nothing fancy.

Simply feel your natural breath entering your body.
Notice how that breath didn’t take any effort.

Faithfully, it’s just there.
Grace is breathing you.

As the breath turns around, take a gentle second or two to hold the air in before exhaling.

And then, as you slowly breathe out, extend your exhale so it stretches out a second or two longer than your inhale was.

Let’s sit like this, together in the stillness. Slowing to the pace of this precious next breath.  Across time and space, let’s sit together as we watch Life and Grace breathe us.

With love and a breath to you,
Sharon

Waking Up

Hello Beloved One,

Lying in bed this morning, just as sleep started leaving me, I began watching my breath; following its gentle rhythm of entering and leaving my body.

As I noticed the current of breath coming and going, I was like a witness, watching from the outside.

Then, turning my attention into my body, experiencing my body from the inside out, I became away of what was happening within my body.  I began noticing sensations. The gentle tugging of my belly as it expanded: my shoulders sinking deeper into the mattress as my ribs shifted and my chest filled; the tickle of air moving out of my nose; a steady rhythm that sent a subtle wave through every part of me.

Such exquisite sensations; the body doing what it constantly does to keep me alive.  In that moment those sensations were my entire world. And it was exquisite.  It is grace.

Loving you through my breath,
Sharon

Hello Love,

It’s overtime to gift myself a day like this. How about for you?

Today

Today I’m flying low and I’m
not saying a word
I’m letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.

The world goes on as it must,
the bees in the garden rumbling a little,
the fish leaping, the gnats getting eaten.
And so forth.

But I’m taking the day off.
Quiet as a feather.
I hardly move though really I’m traveling
a terrific distance.

Stillness. One of the doors
into the temple.

Offered to you with stillness and gratitude,
Sharon

Hello Loveliness,

This photo is delighting me this morning.

When I first saw it my heart leapt for joy.
Adorable.
Innocent.
Free.
Present.

I kept coming back to it for the pure joy.

I remember loving mud. Luscious, squishing-between-toes mud. Making mud pies in my driveway, green cover-me-with-silkiness, Grecian mud.

Mud’s really not my thing these days. (It would be if I was on that beach in Greece. lol  Make sure to read to the end to see some photos of me with that Grecian sparkle.)

Maybe mud’s not your thing either. But can you recall a time when you’ve had the kind sparkle of delight in your eyes that this baby and puppy have?

What has lit you up like that?

When’s the last time you sparkled with delight?

We can’t force these moments to come.  They come by grace, but they are also a consequence of being utterly open and present to an experience; so taken over by a moment that time is forgotten.

What I can do is offer an invitation to these experiences by leaving spaciousness in my day. Putting my feet on the earth or my body in water. Putting myself in places that make the heart sing. Spending time with kiddos.  Hanging out with my own childlike innocent and seeing possibles in the simplest of things, like a gushy mud puddle. And sharing any of that with a good friend.

Want some help finding your mojo of delight?

In Soul-based coaching this is exactly what you can do.  In a way that is surprising and creative, you offer yourself an invitation for something new to come in. You access your own soul’s wisdom, you create the conditions for those experiences that you long for, and you gently meet the things that get in the way.

It seems like magic but it’s really science.  Maybe it’s where science and magic meet?

Reach out to me if you’re curious!

With love,
Sharon

Hello Dearheart,

Somebody said, worrying is like worshipping the problem. Ponder that, beloved worrier.

And while you’re in the pondering, when it comes to worry, what would you rather worship?

When I find myself in situations and thoughts that stick me to worry, it seems more valuable to shift my attention and welcome new perspectives, creativity, trust, interest and possibilities.

It’s also valuable to pull myself back and look from an expanded, broader view.  What does this look like from a bird-eye view?  Or from out-in-space?  From that perspective, what would I like to happen to my worry?

What could happen?

Worrying is like worshipping the problem.  I re-posted that on  FB a while ago
and someone replied with this Randy Armstrong quote:
Worrying does not take away tomorrow’s troubles. It takes away today’s peace

What could happen if you began to worship the things that bring you peace, right now, in this very moment?

Let’s give it a try!

Yeah, I know. Breaking the habit of worrying isn’t always so easy.

We can have a lot wrapped up in worrying. It could be the way we try to let someone know we care about them.  Worry might make us feel productive or that we’re preventing something bad from happening. Or that by worrying we have a sense of control.

You probably have your very own special worry-style.

If you’re ready to breakup with your worry habits, and are ready to worship something new, the Soul-based Coaching I offer could be perfect.

Hello Dear One,

How are you doing? How well are you navigating the chaotic energies moving in the world?

When the outer world is rocking and rolling my nervous system, the way it has been lately, it can be easy to lose touch with my own true self.

Gratefully, I have learned there is always an opportunity at hand. A door, as Clarissa Pinkola Estés shares in this piece of wisdom –

The doors to the world of the wild Self
are few but precious.

If you have a deep scar,
that is a door.

If you have an old, old story,
that is a door.

If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it,
that is a door.

If you yearn for a deeper life,
a full life, a sane life,
that is a door.

~ Clarissa Pinkola Estés

Beloved, is there a door calling to you?

Perhaps you are longing for a door that seems unreachable.

Or maybe you can’t see that door right now, but you know it’s close by.

At times you might yearn to enter a door that feels too confusing or scary to walk through alone.

These are times when I, as a coach, can be your ally. I’ll meet you with presence and curiosity. I’ll hold space for your unique exploration and will offer you simple questions that open you to the voice of your own wisdom; your own, glorious, wild Self.

If this sounds valuable to you, consider meeting me in the field of Soul-based Coaching.

Send me a note and we’ll explore what is possible.

With love and beautiful possibilities,
Sharon

Hello Dear One,

This was the good question – “Who is the person you are deciding to be?”   I was asked this on a day when I was triggered; and, as it often goes, it was the perfect question.

Who is the person I am deciding to be?

Who am I deciding to be right now, when someone triggers me?

I decide to make a small change – when someone, with good intentions triggers me.

That made all the difference.

Maybe, if I stay curious, I can always find a good intention somewhere, even if it’s buried deep in the under-story of a life.

What difference does it make if this is where I start from?

One small decision. One small perspective change.  Which leads to another and then another.

Sometimes I think change needs to be big or grand. A major shift.  But it’s the small turnings, or the looking upside down at something, that catches my breath with amazement or gently brings me to something that feels truer.

It’s assuming that under it all there is always grace. I just might not have seen it yet.

Who is the person you are deciding to be?

with grace and an open heart,
Sharon
